:icontrollfaceplz: lol, problem bro?

FFFFFFFFyea actually there is. I am DAMN SICK of drive-by favorite-ings.
I have about a 5-to-1 fave to comment ration on my art! It irritates me.
Now don't get me wrong! I appreciate what I get, but i appreciate it for what it is: someone stumbling upon art, thinking it has some artistic merit, and drag-&-dropping it into their favorites. About a 5 second process.

Lets compare! Comments show that you are human, friendly, intelligent, and have a grasp of written word. It takes about 30 seconds tops to write "hey dude! Love the colors," and it makes EVERYONE happy. Hell! YOU MIGHT EVEN MAKE A FRIEND.

Also, more and more people are adding every deviation they see to their favorites in the hopes that the original author will look at their page. So favorites are practically useless these days anyway.

With that said, I will no longer be thanking people for adding my art to their favorites.

Thanks to :icontimesplitter92: for his awesome stamp template

Feel free to use this stamp to show that you feel this way too, but don't you DARE just :+fav: it and run!

Thank you so much, this entire stamp, this entire description... It perfectly sums up what I think about faving and running ^^
Hell, I got driven to a point where I wrote a long-ass journal about why faving and running sucks XD [link]

When someone Faves one of my pictures, I not only take the time to leave a "Thank You" on their Profile Page, but I always check out their own Gallery (if I haven't done so on a previous occasion) and often I find one or more pictures of theirs that I like and add them to my Faves. Sometimes I leave a Comment if I'm really impressed or if they are new artists just getting started, even though they usually haven't left a Comment on mine. Doesn't matter to me.

When I've finished looking at all the pictures in their Gallery, I then check out their Favorites because if they liked one of my pictures, then they often have other pictures in their Fave Collections that I'll also like. That has been a great way for me to discover works I like by artists I haven't come across before. The downside, of course, is when I open one of the Faved pictures to view in full size, I'll often detour over to that artist's Gallery to see the rest of their works, and then, of course, I just have to check out that artist's Faves, and on and on. An hour or more later of viewing multiple artists' pictures, I'll finally make my way back to the original artist's page where my whole viewing journey began :). But what a wonderful way to spend the time, looking at beautiful artwork. And, yes, I do look back through my own Fave Collections from time to time to enjoy all those Faved pictures many times over.

So, just to say that I think Faves have a very important place on DA, at least for people like me who use them to discover great artwork.
I personally love Faves, although sometimes I'm rather slow in getting my "Thank You's" made because of my wandering habits. And, no, I don't ever Fave a picture without viewing it first. And I don't Fave anyone's entire Gallery.

Your point is well taken. I do believe faves have a place. Unfortunately more often than not I feel that people are exploiting the kindness of people like you. I used to be like that myself, but I don't really have that kind of time or patience any more =D

But thank you for your wonderfully thoughtful comment. It was well written, true and insightful =D

I just like comments more than faves ;)

whoops, I'm one of the people your talkin' bout here.... sometimes I just dont have time to write a comment, I like to sit back and click and drag what I love. If its REALLY worth a comment(like something that makes me burst out with laughter) I might comment, I'm just one of those people who never know what to say.

but to tell you the truth, a lot of people do this to me. Half of deviantARTs population does the same thing as I do. Just because they dont comment, doesnt mean they only like the art a teeny bit, they just wanna view as much art as they can in the time they have. I know, its annoying cuz you wanna hear what they liked about the art, I get the same stuff and sometimes I'm annoyed. But I think of favoriting as an automatic comment of "I love this!" or "This is awesome!" because any one who favorites it is probably thinking that, I think that all the time!

You have a very good point there. Generic comments are just as bad. The real point of these stamps was to encourage actual interaction between people. I just wanted to remind that its always nice to take an extra 25 seconds (when available) to help De-anonymize the internet... just a little =D

yeah, like I said, I only comment when I have something unique to say. Saying "good job" is kinda lame, everyone loves to receive unique comments like "this is a very nice picture, I like what you did with the colors. It shows great emotion, nice job"

I usually find myself interacting with people just by the picture itself, not so much the comments. What I see constantly is this
Viewer: "I love this! Its so cool!"
Artist: "Thanks! :D"
Viewer: "no problem!"

and then thats it, maybe thats why I dont post many comments like that, because you get the "thanks"->"no prob" conversation, its awkward sometimes. If its unique, a more exciting conversation is spiked!
Viewer: "omgosh! I LOVE this anime!"
Artist: "really? awesome! me too! I love this character!"
Viewer: "I do too!"

theres a friendship :D!

lol, its funny because here we are spiking a cool conversation xD over a simple ranting topic too!

lolz I agree with you. Most of my friends on dA I met via the second type of comment chain. Some of those friends are now real life friends. HOWEVER, if they had just :+fav: none of that would have ever happened :XD:

Preach, my friend! Preach!
I absolutely ADORE honest comments on my art! Even if it's an critque! (Even better! Especially if they can give me tips on how to fix some things.)

And like you said, more people are just putting pictures in their favs like rabid dogs only to get pageviews/attention. Or because it has something they like in it (boobs is a common one), but there is no real depth to it.

Forgive me if I sound picky, or whatever. But I feel that real art speaks to the person, and you would not hesitate to express how you feel about it.

But hey, that's just my opinion on the matter.
Awesome stamp, my friend!:highfive:

You and I, my friend, probably have a lot in common =D

Thats why I love comments. It lets me know what I'm doing right, wrong, what is touching peoples hearts, or what is just white noise. I ask for critique on almost all my works (after I got Premium) SPECIFICALLY for that reason =D
